Expansive red clay prairie soils — Kirkland, Renfrow, Bethany, Grainola over Permian shale
Moore sits at the clay end of Cleveland County. A spatial query of current USDA SSURGO data returns essentially no sandy dune or river-terrace soils — the map units are Kirkland, Renfrow, Bethany, Norge, Grant-Huska, Kingfisher, Vanoss, Grainola and Lomill. These are silt loam surfaces over dense red clay subsoils with slickensides: Kirkland carries 35-60% clay with a maximum linear extensibility of 17.0%, Renfrow 35-55% clay at 8.0%, and Grainola sits on red Permian shale at only 20-40 inches. The 1987 USDA Soil Survey of Cleveland County notes that for the map unit containing most of Moore, shrinking and swelling, permeability, corrosion to steel and erodibility are severe limitations. Plan for clay excavation, and expect shale within a few feet in places.

Same-day inspections are available if requested by 9am. Moore has adopted the 2018 International Residential Code as amended by the City of Moore and the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission. Moore's specific pool barrier/fence ordinance text and pool permit fee amounts are UNDETERMINED — confirm with the city.

Moore is one of the most tornado-affected communities in the United States: the NWS rated the May 3, 1999 tornado F5 and the May 20, 2013 tornado EF5, the latter with an approximately 14-mile path up to 1.1 miles wide. Large hail is a routine spring hazard. Wikipedia's stated 17.98 inches annual precipitation for Moore is inconsistent with NOAA normals and should not be used.
